1214.0. "Twistted pair and/or thin wire support FDDI ALPHA 3000 workstations" by TLSE01::MIRGHANE () Mon Jan 24 1994 12:31

    We are competing for a network subsystem.
    the customer needs FDDI. However he would like a flexible way to
    implement this because certain users will have to move from one office
    to another bringing their workstations with them.
    The best way seems to implement twisted pairs (or at least thin wire) using
    a DEC openlink approach.
    However the Turbochannel FDDI controller DEFTA-FA does not support
    any of these connections(no thin wire no twisted pair). It seems that
    only MIC or ST multimode fiber optic is supported.
    Is there something we are missing?
    What would be the best solution?.
    By the way is it necessary to add the DEC LAN device driver kit for
    an Alpha OVMS system?

    thanks for quick help.
    Regards
    Soumetty.

    Please contact George Nielsen (DELNI::G_NIELSEN) with these concerns.
    There is a new DEFTA in the works that supports both UTP FDDI and DAS
    optical.
