1206.0. "Low power optics a standard?" by VAXRIO::ROLF (Vaporware Design Specialist) Thu Jan 13 1994 10:07

Could someone tell me if our LOW POWER solution in the DECconc500 is
based on some standard or if it is simply a DEC propriatory technology?

I would like to use the -LA boards, but the customer specifies that
everything offered relating to PMD should comply with standards:

    X3.166-1990 and ISO 9314-3;1990

    Thanks

That specific standard is the ANSI MIC (full power multimode) PMD. So the -LA
cannot be used if the customer meant precisely what he said. If what he meant
was "any of the various ANSI PMD standards", that's a different question.
Full power multimode and single mode are approved standards. TP-PMD and low
power optics are both drafts. The -LA was developed before the low power work
even started in ANSI, but as far as I know it is compatible with the draft
standard. Maybe Dick Kirk has a more authoritative answer?
