1184.0. "DEFEA and TCP/IP" by BLKPUD::SAVAGET () Mon Dec 13 1993 18:24

			CROSS POSTED RANGER::PWDOS4
			~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a customer with the following configuration ;
 	    +----------+
	    | VAX 6310 | Pathworks for VMS V4.2-1
	    +__________+ configured for DECnet and TCP/IP (UCX V2.0)
		 |
		 |
		 |
	+-------------------+
	|DECconcentrator 500|
	+-------------------+
		 |
		 | FDDI Cable
		 |
	 +------------------+ Pathworks for DOS V4.1a
	 | DECpc with DEFEA | Pathworks for DOS (TCP/IP) V2.0
	 |    FDDI card     | MS-DOS V5.0
	 +------------------+
If Pathworks for DOS is configured for DECnet the above works fine.
If TCP/IP is chosen as the transport the error 'Network Name Not
Found' is displayed when trying to connect to the system file service,
PCSAV41.
To prove that a connection over TCP/IP was possible, the customer
installed an Etherworks 3 card in place of the DEFEA, using Ethernet
instead of FDDI.  This worked fine.
The customer is using the DEFEA MAC driver that came with the card,
which is V1.00.  This doesn't seem to work with TCP/IP.  I set this
up in-house and couldn't get the V1.00 driver to work either.  The
one that I did get working reports its version as X3.00.000.  I sent
this to the customer, who says that he can now connect to Pathworks
server.  Is the X3.00.000 a supported driver ?  What is the latest
version of the driver and is it being shipped with DEFEA cards ?
I have searched on KALI::PCDRIVERS: but there is no reference for
DEFEA's.
Thanks,
--Tony--
You're right, the v1.00 driver doesn't work at all with TCP/IP. You'll want to
get the Pathworks Certified V2.07 driver. I should have that driver up on
KALI::PCDRIVERS:, but it may not be. I'll check. In the mean time, you, or
your customer, may get fairly recent drivers off of the internet at the
following location:
	gatekeeper.dec.com  /pub/DEC/FDDI/EISA
In that directory, you will find .ZIP files containing NDIS, Novell, NT, and
SCO drivers for the DEFEA. You may attach to gatekeeper via anonymous FTP.
Internally, you may also access it as DECWRL::"/pub/DEC/FDDI/EISA", and get the
files using DECnet. Remember to use binary mode transfers.
    The latest DEC FDDIcontroller/EISA drivers are up on KALI::PCDRIVERS:
    and have been for some time.  The latest DOS distribution diskette
    (v2.2) can be found on FEAV22.ZIP;1 while the latest SCO UNIX driver
    can be found on FE100B.TAR;1.  There are associated *.ABS files that
    provide a summary of the file contents.
    Other places to find the latest drivers are gatekeeper.dec.com as -.1
    mentioned, the DECPCI Forum on CompuServe, and the CompuServe Easynet
    mirror on OS2LAN::OS2:[PUBLIC.COMPUSRV.LANCONTR]
