1154.0. "Is there anybody knows what does the message mean?" by HTSC19::KENNETH (Kenneth Leung HKCS) Tue Nov 23 1993 04:22

Hi there,

I would like to see if there is anyone who has seen this message before or
know what does it means.

There is a DEC Concentrator 500 connected to a FDDI network on the customer
site. However, the DECelms keep logging the message below:

Event Logged Time : 18-NOV-1993 17:03:47.87
Device Name : CON11
Device Type : DEFCN - DEC Concentrator 500
Line 1 Address : 08-00-2B-39-28-EF
Event Code : 2.3.4
Event Description : Physical port 4B Reject Reason
Previous Value : STANDBY
Current Value : NO REASON

Then then next message change the Previous Value from STANDBY to NO REASON
and the Current Value is vice versa.

I guess the software is keep testing the port to see if there is any
connection or not. Is that right?

"Standby" indicates a dual-homed station. The DC500 periodically checks
whether to make the connection active.

I think the periodic restart is not so much to check whether it's time to
change over. It does that check whenever anything changes. The periodic
restart is because the protocol limits the amount of time you can hold the
"standby" state. (It's actually a special case of LCT, held for as long
as possible, which is 50 seconds...)
