1149.0. "DECbridge 5xx/6xx and DECconcentrator 5xx Firmware" by GIDDAY::STANISLAUS () Mon Nov 15 1993 20:21

	I read note 837. What is the latest F/W revisions as of today the
16th Novemeber 93 ? As per 837.x the F/W revs are as follows:

1)New DECbridge 5xx/6xx  with the AP2 card --> 1.3

2)Old DECbridge 500 with the AP card --> 3.0

3)DECconcentrator 500 --> 3.3

	If there are later F/W than above can someone post a reply here please.

	Next question: Not all my FDDI customers are getting DECndu and F/W
update tapes automatically. Shouldn't the newer F/W updates come automatically ?

1149.2firmware for FDDIDELNI::ONEILLTue Dec 07 1993 14:0415
    The DECconcentrator 500 ships today with v3.2 firmware. In the
    next message I will append the sales update that has the order
    information. There is a v3.3 firmware upgrade in the pipeline.
    It should be available for customer to order in the next month.

    DEC FDDIcontroller 700 is shipping v1.2. There was a plan to
    update to v1.3 but this code was never released. This was largely
    due to not enough FLASH to support all the changes for SMT V7.3.
    George Nielsen is product mgr and can update you if there is another
    release scheduled to fix any bugs. He also has the DEC FDDIcontroller
    400.  There was a sales update Nov 1, 1993 announcing v2.0 support.

    Jane Brechlin is PM for DECbridge products and can help you with latest
    FW. I believe it is v1.3 for both 500/600 series.

DIGITAL SOLUTION

DECconcentrator 500 Software Microcode is dedicated Microcode that runs in
the DECconcentrator 500 hardware platform. The Microcode is stored in
electrically alterable ROM that resides in the DEFCN-A*, -B* hardware
platform and is maintained over power outages and system resets. The
DECconcentrator 500 hardware platform is designed to comply with the ANSI
X3T9.5 FDDI Standard.

The DECconcentrator 500 hardware platform is shipped from the factory with
the DECconcentrator 500 Software Microcode preloaded and can be updated via
downline loading when new versions of the Microcode are issued.

The software license required to run DECconcentrator 500 Software Microcode
is included with the DECconcentrator 500 hardware platform purchase.

CUSTOMER BENEFITS

DECconcentrator 500 Microcode V3.2 includes the following new features and
benefits:

o SMT V7.2 support -- Facilitates full FDDI Management capabilities

o Unsolicited Port change notification -- Status facilitates keeping the
   network manager informed of real time connection status

o PMF sets (ANSI Standard optional feature) -- Allows SMT management of
   other FDDI stations on the ring

o Continued support for downline load of new software microcode -- Allows
   customer firmware updates utilizing NDU utility provided with the update
   kit

o Supports reception, processing and transmission of remote network
   management packets generated by network management software utilizing
   SNMP (including simple sets), RBMS, MOP, or SMT protocols

o SNMP MIB support includes MIB II (RFC 1213), FDDI MIB (RFC 1285) and a

                            FOR INTERNAL USE ONLY
   DEC vendor MIB

NOTE: Exact compliance with RFC 1285 is not possible due to conflicts
       between it and ANSI X3T9.5 SMT V7.2. See release notes for details.
