Hi all, Anybody heard about something like that customer's problem ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: VBORMC::"[email protected]" 26-OCT-1993 16:25:31.11 Subj: Strange problem with a 12 port concentrator I had a strange problem with a 12 port concentrator. DEC concentrator 500 Soft : rev 3.2.1 main frame : A011 -618A management card: DEFCN-MB Rev A02 ports : DEFCN-HA Rev A01 This concentrator was on a ring with sporadic heavy traffic. The B port was attached to an M port of an other concentrator and ports 1b, 2b, 5b and 6c were connected to a station. All the other ports were free. Monday morning I saw all the LEDs off for all the free ports. I tried to connect to the concentrator via SNMP and this was impossible. After mid-day all the LEDs were steady on even on the ports which were not connected. The ring map given by an FDDI monitor gave me a complete ring except that the concentrator was not shown. I connected a terminal to the OBM port. Nothing happened (hung). I then removed all the M ports. When I removed the B port the OBM port had the menu on the screen and all the LEDs blinked as normal again. Via the OBM menu I was not able to find a "bad" port. Jacques Anthonioz @CERN -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PS: Told to customer to upgrade firmware to V3.3 asap -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: VBORMC::"[email protected]" 1-NOV-1993 15:31:24.45 Subj: Strange behavior with the same concentrator Walter I have again a strange behavior with the same concentrator 12 ports. I loaded version 3.3. The left LED on the management card went red (indicating card fault) I loaded 3.2.1 again, the LED stayed red. Via the OBM port we did a reset the LED became normal (off). One port (4b) did not allow any connection, but after the reset it allows a connection again. Doing a power OFF/ON the LED becomes red again (card fault). Via OBM nothing special can be seen. Everything seems normal. Any idea about this strange behavior ? J. Anthonioz

1141.1 | LED on MNGT card comes on. | KERNEL::ARKLEYS | Wed Nov 02 1994 10:43 | 15
I seem to have a customer who has a similar problem to the previous. The customer is running v3.4a of the firmware, and v1.0 of ROM. On his DECconcentrator 500 when he powers it up, the led on the management card lights up red. If you do a factory reset in the concentrator it passes fine and the led stays of, but as soon as you do a power cycle the led comes back on red. The concentrator however seems to work ok. This cust in particular has 6 of these concentrators, 3 of which seem to have this problem, but they are all running the same firmware, and they all work fine after a factory reset, but as soon as you do a normal power up the led's on the mgnt card come on. Cheers Steve.

This may be a know bug in the power-up logic. There was an eco made to the management modules and backplane module. I'll talk to the responsible people and see if we can get a blitz out, if we can I'll post it here.
