Is there any timer which expires if an upsteam neighbor station does not send a NIF at least every 30 seconds? Will the downstream station begin claiming if this happens? Where can more detail on this be obtained? Phil

A NIF timeout will be reflected in the station status you can see via network management. It does NOT cause claim or any other recovery action. (SMT frames are not actually necessary for FDDI to work. If all SMT frames suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth, no FDDI user would notice, and most network managers wouldn't either!) paul |
