    				  Hi!

    for OpenVMS VAX.

    Thank's Lars-Ake Torlind./CSC Sweden.

There is no DEC LAN DEVICE DRIVER kit. There is a release of VMS that
includes the support for the DEFTA and the DEFQA. This is OpenVMS
VAX version 5.5-2H4. I would assume that it's available wherever
you would normally get your VMS kits.
1101.3There is an SPD for it......CSC32::B_GOODWINTue Oct 19 1993 15:4016
David,

If there is no LAN Device Driver Kit, what is this?

DEC LAN Device Driver Kit for OpenVMS VAX V1.0 SPD 45.87.00

  DESCRIPTION

The DEC LAN Device Driver Kit includes a set of FDDI adapter device
drivers for use on OpenVMS VAX Version V5.5-2 ONLY. The drivers and
FDDI adapters together provide FDDI connectivity for selected Q-bus
  and TURBOchannel based VAX CPUs.

Note: This SPD provides supplemental information to be used in conjunc-
tion with OpenVMS VAX Operating System, Version V5.5-2, SPD 25.01.36.

David,

I was wondering, before they came out with the V5.2-2H4 kits, maybe they were
sending the DEC LAN Device Driver Kit for OpenVMS VAX V1.0.

There was going to be a kit, but since there were some hardware
problems with one of the devices, the dates slipped into the V5.5-2H4
release. NAC was going to ship the DEC LAN DEVICE DRIVER kit. But the
cost of shipping was not worth it. So the slip into the V5.5-2H4
release (which was going to occur anyway) was the only way the drivers
    were shipped.

What an absolute crock! You mean I've had my poor MCS engineer in here
all morning struggling with this sucker, and now the only way to get the
FDDI controller to work is to upgrade the flippin' OPERATING SYSTEM???
    Give me a break!

All of the documentation refers to a software kit of drivers. Where is
it? Make the flippin' thing available on Easynet, at least!

I'm a distribution site for the OpenVMS kits, and no-one ever said word
one to me about any funky V5.5-2H4 release.

To make it crysal clear: I have purchased FDDI controllers for my VAX
4000/300 boxes. The documentation that comes with the hardware says a
software kit containing the drivers is necessary. I am already running
OpenVMS/VAX V5.5-2. I *DO NOT* want to have to upgrade my operating
system on these boxes. I want, available on Easynet, a software kit that
matches what the documentation (which our customers see!) says is
    available and needed.

Is this too much to ask?

5.5-2H4 is essentially a sw kit containing the 'new' driver(s). One of
the simplest vmsinstals that you will ever have to do.
