1083.0. "Solaris taking out DECbridge 620's now..." by CTOAVX::BEAULIEU () Thu Sep 09 1993 11:13
Hi,
Once again I have a problem and wanted to know if anyone out in the
field has seen a similar/same problem. A problem discription is below:
The first indication of a problem is performance degradation. A ping
test between the workstations on the ethernet side to workstations (W/S)
on the FDDI side takes as long as 1 or 2 seconds. During this period,
the utilization on the ethernet side is less than 5% and the
utilization on the ring is less than 1%. The second stage occurs when
the W/S's on the e-net side lose connectivity to any W/s's on the FDDI
side. All W/S's on the E-net side can ping each other but cannot reach
anyone beyond the bridge. Cycling power on the bridge restores service.
We have tried 2 different bridges with the same result and as stated
earlier, we have 16 such bridges in a production environment that
exhibitno problems whatsoever. The obvious difference is is SUN Solaris
OS on the workstations on the Enet side.
So out of this description, I have two questions, (I am not really
worried about the problem itself because I know as always SUN will come
up with a patch in a couple of weeks and fix the problem.)
first question.... how could a SUN W/S running Solaris OS take out one
of our DECbridge 620's?
Second question.... This is the 3rd or 4th problem I have run into with
SUN and our FDDI equipment. (read notes 902, 1030) Do we test other
vendors new equipment against ours? Whatever happened to the testing
lab at UNH or the one at AMD?
Thanks, Mike Beaulieu
