1075.0. "slow FDDI (4mb/s)" by PRSPSU::JACQUOT (Don't step on my blue sued shoe) Tue Aug 31 1993 11:49
Lot of problems with customer:
------- -------
Conf.: =======|cisco|=========|cisco|======
|| ------- ------- ||
|| ------- ||
==============|DEFCN|===============
-------
| |
------------------- |
| V4090 (defza-aa)| |
------------------- |
|
------------------- |
| V4090 (defza-aa)|-|
-------------------
dual ring with 2 CISCO's and one DEFCN
First problem (counter below):
When using FTP (with MULTINET software) between the 2 V4090 stations with
DEC-controller 400 the maximum speed is around 4Mb/s, it's a little bit slow
for FDDI!
Customer try some things:
- changing timing of the TRT 4ms, 5 ms, 8 ms
- 2 STATION's in stand alone (means with DEFCN out of the ring)
These manipulations doesn't change the pb.
I upgraded concentrator to V3.3, the pb is still here.
Revision of defza is E05.
The second pb (Same problem, as I can seen, in note 1064.3) is the increase of
"Ring initializations received" (In fact I don't think so, they are a lot of
Ring initializations received, cause they are no Ring initializations intiated,
and this counter increase only on the FTP sender system)
So any help should appreciated......
Eric

| It may well be that the problem isn't in the FDDI but in the test procedure.
Where is the data coming from and going to? Perhaps the disk is the bottleneck.
Is the system CPU bound?
There seem to be several problems with the NCP display: it's impossible to
get 4*10^9 ring inits in one minute, so that entry is bogus. The same goes
for the frame count. Another curious fact is that the ring purger state is
shown as "off" even though the ring purger is shown as enabled.
