1061.0. "SDDI interface for DEC PC" by ULYSSE::BARRIER () Mon Aug 16 1993 12:15

Hi,

I would like to know if a DEC PC is able to support SDDI type of connection. I
know that we don't have FDDI/controller able to support this connection. To be
more precise, I would like to know if third party SDDI controller is able to
work on a DEC PC. If yes, which controller from which company ?

Thanks,

    I can't say for sure, but I believe "SDDI" is the name for IBM's
    proprietary FDDI over STP solution. With their recent announcement of
    OEMing SysKonnect's FDDI adapters, you should check on the future
    support (and upgrade path?) of their current SDDI adapters.

    To answer your question, as long as the controller is a well-behaved
    ISA or EISA card, it should work just fine in a Digital PC. Once you
    have a card in mind, you should probably ask someone in the PC group
    to find out whether they've tested their systems with that card.
    Chances are they haven't, since it's been my experience that mostly
    Ethernet and Token-Ring NIC's are used to determine compatibility
    between systems and LAN devices. Of course, I'm hoping that will change
    some day.  :-)

    As for DEC FDDIcontroller futures over STP, you should check with the
    PM, Sharon (DELNI::ONEILL) Oneill.
