"Public Neworks in the 1990s:  Future Wide Area Telecomunications 
Technologies", version 3.1, is now available.  This updates the 
July, 1991 edition (v3.0).

This DIGITAL INTERNAL USE ONLY document is a technical overview of
several key technologies that are being deployed now or within the
decade by the worldwide telecommunications industry.  Topics include: 

	Narrowband ISDN
	Frame Relay 
	The DQDB Metropolitan Area Network (802.6)
	Switched MultiMegabit Data Service
	Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and Broadband ISDN

Attention is called to the extensively revised chapter on ATM.  The 
other chapters received only minor updating since 3.0.

Distribution is electronic. The PostScript file (about half a megabyte) 
is available to be copied from:

	CARAFE::USER1:[GOLDSTEIN.DOC]FWATT31.PS (raw form)
or	CARAFE::USER1:[GOLDSTEIN.DOC]FWATT31.ZIP (zipped)

The printed hard copy of this file is 74 pages long. The raw (.PS) file
is somewhat over half a megabyte long.  When copying from VMS, use of
FTSV (SPOOL COPY) is strongly advised.  (CARAFE is in TAY2, Littleton.) 
The ZIPped form is only about 170k bytes; non-local users are strongly
encouraged to use this if a suitable UNZIP program is available.
