1008.0. "How to certify a customer's network design?" by TOPTEN::LEONARD (Paid to play) Fri Jul 02 1993 07:56
Cross posted in the MDF notesfile...
I am in the process of beginning preparation for an MDF install. The
customer is implementing MDF with a quorum VAX config. The customer
currently has campus-wide fiber that is 85 micron(internal), not sure of
the external size. The total length of one ring will be 1000 ft max.,
2000 ft max in the event of a failure and wrap.
To install the quorum VAX at a remote location, they plan to utilize the
campus fiber if possible. Is there any way to patch 85 to 62.5 to make
this config as standard as possible? Would there be problems using the
85 micron fiber for the entire ring? What is our official position on
using fiber other than the standard sizes? Are patches an ok thing to
do? How are they accomplished, or is this something best not attempted?
What is Digital's official process for certifying a customer's FDDI network
design?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

| See note 924.3 for information regarding alternate fiber types. It
includes guidelines for 85/125 micron fiber.
