I basically want to double check my beliefs about the TVX and T_Req
parameters. If my understanding is correct, the TVX is the max. time
that can go by without getting a nonrestricted token or seeing a valid
frame. Is there a default (i think 3ms) and a max value?
Also, on the T_Req, i believe this is used for single link arbitration.
do all nodes on the ring use the same T_Req, and if so, which T_Req do
they decide to use? one last item, is there a default T_Req value?
thanks in advance.

You're right on TVX. There is no max; the default is more like 2.5 ms.
On T_Req, there are a number of related parameters: T_Req, T_Neg, etc.
Have you looked at the FDDI Primer discussion about this? I don't
remember exactly what it says...
Basically, T_Req is the desired value for TTRT chosen by a particular
station. Each station can have a different values. During claim, the
lowest of these values is determined (T_Neg), and that value is used as
TTRT.
