900.0. "Fiber Channel?" by TKTVFS::NEMOTO (back to the drawing board..) Tue Mar 16 1993 09:30
What is the Fiber Channel all about? How Digital sees it?
A newspaper has a short article that IBM, HP, and SUN joined to form a
standardization group aming at bulding a multivender workstation enviornment
with the fiber channel. The fiber channel sends information with one 'G'bits
per second within 10km in (fiber) distance. With having the technology,
you can build a (next generation) high speed network with a lower cost than
an ATM LAN.. and so on..
It also mentioned that a small company named Uncore(sp? sorry..) Communications
(has only about 50 people) plays an important role in the technology.
Thanks,
_Tak
