WORKAROUND:
New images correcting these problems are currently available for VMS V5.3
or higher, and DEC FDDIcontroller 400 (DEMFA). This patch kit should only
be installed at your site if you are experiencing any of the symptoms
described above.
To obtain this patch kit, there are two options from 'DSNlink for VMS':
o DSNlink ITS INVOKE_FUNCTION:
To use the DSNlink ITS INVOKE_FUNCTION option, read the article
in the Text Search database and at the 'ITS>' prompt, enter the
command, INVOKE_FUNCTION. Answer the requested site information
and the kit will be downloaded automatically.
o DSNlink VTX and using a search string of '#565':
To use the DSNlink VTX Patch Application, enter the command
'DSN VTX'. Select the Patch option, and when prompted to enter
a 'search string', specify a keyword of '#565' to find the patch
kit entitled:
[DEMFA] General Fix Kit for DEC FDDIcontroller
400, V1.4 of Microcode, #565 V1.1
For additional information on how to use either of these options, refer
to the following articles in the DSNLINK Text Search Database entitled:

Install this patch with the VMSINSTAL utility by logging into the
SYSTEM account, and entering the following command at the dollar prompt:
@SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL CSCPAT_0565 load-device: OPTIONS N
The saveset location may be a tape drive, or a disk directory that contains
the patch kit saveset.
This installation does NOT purge any modified files.
POST-INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
To reload the microcode, the VAX console must be placed in UPDATE mode. If
you get the error message SYSTEM-F-DEVERROR, the console is not in UPDATE
mode. Then, to invoke DECndu, issue the command:
$ DOWN LOAD /RESET FXA0 MOM$SYSTEM:DEMFA014.SYS
Note this will temporarily disconnect any users/links using the FX device,
since the protocols have to be restarted.
\ IMAGE IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION:
\
\ Use the command
\ $ ANALYZE /IMAGE <image-name>
\ to obtain the image identification information for each image:
\
\ File Name: DEMFA014.SYS;1
\ *** This file is not a VAX/VMS native image. ***
\
\ IMAGE CHECKSUM INFORMATION:
\
\ Use the undocumented/unsupported command
\ $CHECKSUM /IMAGE <image-name>
\ to obtain checksum information for each image.
\ Note that $CHECKSUM /IMAGE provides checksum information in hexadecimal.
\
\ If the file is not a native OpenVMS image, use the command
\ $CHECKSUM <file-name>
\ Then issue the command
\ $SHOW SYMBOL CHECKSUM$CHECKSUM
\ to see the checksum information. Note that this particular command shows
\ the checksum information in decimal as opposed to hexadecimal.
\
\ File Name: DEMFA014.SYS;1
\ Checksum: 3180482058
\ *** This file is not a VAX/VMS native image. ***
