845.0. "Concentrator 500, will the boards work together?" by SHARE::GAUDETTE () Tue Feb 02 1993 08:46

    I have a question about the DECconcentrator 500 and hope someone has a
    quick answer. Can you place both the fiber module (4 port module) and
    the copper module (6 port BNC) both together in the same concentrator
    at the same time with no ill effects?

845.1yes, mix those "m" port cardsABACUS::FUBAR2::LAVERDURERON LAVERDURETue Feb 02 1993 09:4418
yes you can mix the different "m" port cards in the same concentrator box.

if you have a standalone concentrator box without management card, you can mix
3 different mediums in the decconcentrator box such as

		multimode fiber card in slot 1
		twisted pair copper card in slot 2
		thinwire coax copper card in slot 3

If you have a interconnected concentrator box you lose the first slot to the
management card and you can still mix mediums in the two remaining slots such as

		twisted pair copper in slot 2
		low power optics in slot 3

The above medium selections were random , no significance in the choices.

    just make sure your microcode is at 3.0 or later. 2.x will not work
    with the copper modules.
