837.2bridge V1.3 release notesQUIVER::WALTERTue Mar 16 1993 11:4417
    The DECbridge V1.3 release notes are now included in the directory
    mentioned in .1 reply. A couple of reminders:

    	1. This software has not yet been approved by SSB, and has not
    	   yet been announced. It is being made available internally as a
    	   service to DEC folks.

    	2. If you are upgrading to V1.3 from a previous released version,
    	   you MUST set the reset-to-defaults switch (switch 2 down) as
    	   described in the release notes. Don't forget to save any
           management set information before doing this. For those of you
           who are upgrading from a field test version of V1.3, you can
    	   probably do the upgrade without resetting to factory defaults.
           (But if it doesn't work, then try resetting to defaults).

    What does this firmware release fix?
837.11V3.4 changesBRUIN1::TAYLORMon Feb 21 1994 15:1315

    V3.4 firmware fixes;

               a led problem, when an -AC box is dual homed the leds
    of the backup phy will alternate between red/green and red.

               if using the OBM port the DEFCN will reset if you try
    to disable a nonexistant phy if a board is in the slot, e.g. disabling
    phy 1c on a management card.

    For future reference, the release notes included in each of the
    savesets contain a description of the changes from the previous
    version, bug fixes, enhancements.

If I just copied over the file

would that be the right one for RISC Ultrix ?

I couldn't locate the file listed in .9

837.21How is firmware being distributed since it was kicked off the condist CDROMs?40202::PETTENGILLmulpTue Apr 04 1995 22:563
The last I knew the firmware had been pulled from the condist cdroms because
they weren't protected by lmf or some such nonsense. What is the distribution
mechanism now, or is the another case of fire, aim, ready.
837.22NPSS::JOHNSONMike J., Network Products SupportWed Apr 05 1995 09:0419
Hi Mike,

Distribution is, just as it has always been, on the product specific media kits.
We USED to make mag tape and TK50 for VMS, Risc-Ultrix, and VAX-Ultrix, and an
RX23 for DOS for both DEFEB and DEFCN, but starting with the V1.5 DEFEB and any
future DEFCN, the reel to reel tapes will be discontinued.

And yes, DEFEB and DEFCN (and lots of other stuff) were taken off the ConDis
CDs, but NOT for the reason you suspected. It seems that someone changed the
security classifications and decided that making that firmware available on CD
presented some kind of national security risk. The LFU and other stuff problem
is also real but all that prohibits us from doing is putting CURRENT versions
of firmware on the CD's. The old versions of some firmware products are still
on the CD's and getting those obsolete versions off is every bit as hard as
getting the new ones on !!!

Try to figure........

    DEFCN34A is the latest release for the DECconcentrator firmware.
    This is the note where I would put a pointer.

837.26NPSS::JOHNSONMike J., Network Products SupportFri Feb 16 1996 07:5918
The latest RELEASED versions of DEFCN and DEFEB code are those listed in .19 and
.23 by Wayne and Ken. The "FT" in DEFCN34B_FT means the obvious - FIELD TEST.
Don't use it !!!

As for hub products, please refer to:

	 NETCAD::KALI$USER3:[NOTES$LIBRARY]HUB_MGNT.NOTE

notes 2.* for pointers to the current hub distribution kit.

Incidentally, the last time I attempted to update code in my DEFCNs and DEFEBs
using NDUplus, I failed miserably until I discovered that, although I could
interogate the devices via NDUplus, I couldn't UPDATE from a CPU with a DEMFA.
I had to fall back to an ethernet based system to perform the upgrade. I do not
know if this was DEMFA specific or host FDDI adpater generic, but I do know the
DEMFA path does not work.

Release Notes for DECBridge 5xx/6xx (DEFEB) V1.6

August 21, 1996

The following problem was fixed in the 5xx Series Bridge:

	When the Ethernet or FDDI port was in backup mode,
	it would not reply to an ARP request.

The following problem was fixed in the 6xx Series Bridge:

	Under certain conditions, the bridge would not
	respond to an SNMP request. It was unable to
	respond to it's own address. If you had V1.3
	code and use to see a crash with error code
	in a range between 1000 (hex) and 1005 (hex)
	you should upgrade to V1.6 image for 6xx bridge.
