I was recently involved in testing some decbridge 610's for one of our
customers. All went well until the the bridges were connected into the network.
On one of the bridges port 1 was in backup and port 2 and 3 were in forwarding.
When i tried to connect from a server on port 3 to a vax on port 2 the session
timed out. I could see the service announcement coming through the bridge but I
could not connect to the vax. TSM was installed on the vax and that showed all
servers on the segment attached to port 3 as being unavailable. I thought
that this may have been an isolated incidence but this has now occurred again
on another part of the network. No errors counters were being seen.

I have enclosed an output copy of all attributes for one of the bridges seeing
this problem. port 4 of these bridges were not being used. The customer is
concerned about this problem because he feels that his network does not have
the required level of redundancy. Any help on this would be appreciated. I can
get round the problem by disconnecting port 2 which forces port 1 into
forwarding.

| Ports 2 and 4 are in the "broken" state. Put AUI loopbacks on them or
fix the transceivers.

The reason for the delayed response is due to getting time on the
customers network to play. All DEC bridges have now got loop back plugs
installed on unused ports. The problem is still the same. This is affecting the
redundancy that the customer wants to have in his network. Does any one have any
ideas.,
