796.0. "copper support on Alpha" by VNABRW::ERDEI () Thu Nov 19 1992 03:11

    Hello,

    I've been informed the the Turbochannel FDDI copper interface
    (DEFZA-CA) is currently not supported on the DEC3000/400 (Sandpiper)
    workstation. It's almot unbelievable cause the usual DEFZA-AA is
    supported. What's the difference between these two except the
    connection? Will the copper version work?

    Any comment welcome.

796.1It's supposed to work on OpenVMSSTAR::GILLUMKirt GillumFri Nov 20 1992 11:158

    What operating system are you refering to?

    If it's OpenVMS AXP V1.0, the DEFZA-CA is treated the same as the
    DEFZA-AA.

    So, does the DEFZA-CA (Copper: Coax and TWP) not work with:
    	OpenVMS?
    	OSF/1?

    on Alpha (Current, FT, or planned o/s release)????

There isn't any software difference between the two adapters. It sounds like
the SPD hasn't been updated. You should probably query the product manager
about this. There certainly is no reason for not having it supported, and
as Kirt points out, it should certainly work!
