| Here are some answeres to your questions.
1.)
Revision status of the components are:
- DWCTX-BX REV: D01
- DEFZA-AA REV: C3
2.)
My Fddi is not connected to an operational circuit.
However, I did a Loop Back at the FDDI output from DEFZA-AA and the behaviour didn't
change!
3.)
My SW is
- VAX-VMS V 5.5-2 including DECNET
- no other layerd products like X.25 .... whre installed!
In hope to get a solution

The DEFZA you have is a good revision. I don't know what the released
revision of the DWCTX is, but I assume it's OK.
The defza will remain offline while not connected to anything. It's
not like Ethernet in this case.
However, the loopback connector should bring the device online without
problem (I just did it in my office).
What type of loopback connector did you use? Perhaps it's a bad
loopback wire?
What color is the led on the bulkhead of the defza? I assume that the
led on the defza is off (not red or greeen).
I also assume that you're not getting the 'DEFZA firmware is not v1.2
or greater' message on the console when you boot. If you are, you need
to update your controller...

782.6 | problem solved DEFZA-AA | NBOFS1::SCHALLER | BERNI | Tue Nov 17 1992 11:21 | 20 |
| Hello Friends,
The DEC FDDI-Controller 700 "DEFZA-AA" in the new Vaxstation 4000 Model 90
is UP AN RUNNING ....!!!
The problem was the " non-existing operational ring ", because at time of
installation there were no FDDI-Cabel (BN24E-nn) available at customer site.
Although, I didn't understand why the DEFZA-AA wasn't working with
the loopback connector. The loopback connector was O.K. I've tested it
at the DECconcentrator 500 and it works fine.
Many thanks to all my new friends, who helped me to solve my problem!
