774.1 | SNMP needed | VCSESU::MDLYONS | Michael D. Lyons - Young enough and dumb enough | Fri Nov 06 1992 18:01 | 11 |
DECndu doesn't support SNMP and GIGAswitch doesn't support RBMS bridge commands, so if you plan on using DECndu on a DECpc, you need to identify a network management system available on the DECpc platform which can provide SNMP sets to the GIGAswitch MIB. Otherwise, there is no guarantee that a SNMP network management system with the GIGAswitch MIB enrolled is present to set the necessary load parameters in the GIGAswitch. It sure would be nice if the firmware upgrade method used the standard protocols used in the real world such as SNMP and BOOTP/TFTP instead of the DEC only protocols like RBMS and MOP which DECndu uses.
774.2 | DECndu to support SNMP | SCHOOL::POMFRET | Tue Nov 10 1992 15:48 | 11
Mike, Thanks for your input. The DECndu development group is in the process of providing SNMP support for DECndu for several products. The DECndu team and the GIGAswitch developers are negotiating Gigaswitch support for DECndu. A version of DECndu for the DECpc is also under development. For more information on DECndu contact Marty Hurley or Mike Bouchard. Steve Pomfret |
