The Oct. 12 version of Communications week has an article which states that "the University of New Hampshire has unveiled an evaluation program it hopes will help users identify FDDI products that interoperate." Other quotes are as follows: "The FDDI certification will begin in January, said Barry Reinhold, director of the university's Interoperability Lab, Durham, N.H.". "The upcoming certification procedures follow tests of about 50 FDDI products the lab conducted this summer." My questions are as follows: 1. Were DEC's FDDI products tested? Some? All? 2. If not, does DEC care to a part of this independent interoperability testing? Regards, Mark

Hi Mark, These are two different efforts at UNH. The summer one is not for "certification", but the new one is. This new effort will charge about $10k per product to offer a test report on the tested product. I am not sure right now if the test results will be available to anyone who askes, or only from the person who paid for the test. There will however be a marking program which will say some thing such as " on this day, with these tests, and these other products in the ring, product ABC received a grade of XYZ" or something similar to that. I do not yet know what products will be submitted, but it is probable that there will be market pressure to do so. When we have more on this, we'll try to let you know. Bill |
