740.0. "DB620 - UNSOLICITED RESETS" by VNABRW::PARGFRIEDER () Mon Oct 12 1992 05:46
..and the problems still go on!
Let me explain our troubles with a customer in Austria.
The customer have a few DECbridges 620. All of the three
NI ports are used. One of them make troubles with many
Line errors (bad frame received,length errors, trans. error frames
and framing erros..)
But this should not be any problem for a bridge.
So what happend at the customer site is as follows:
The bridge suddenly stopped forwarding on one
port and went into test state (That is what
i suggest, because the Port Led was blinking slowly
and the bridge didn't forward anymore on that port)
This condition lasted aprrox. 12 hours and then
the bridge crashed and counted a unsolicited reset!!!!!
For a few weeks we have had installed the new SW v1.2
This have fixed some of our problems. Is this problem
above a new firmware problem or is it a hardware problem??
For engineers who can deal with a dump i attach the
diagnostic block from this bridge.

740.1 | open NI port problem?? | VNABRW::PARGFRIEDER | | Wed Oct 14 1992 06:33 | 16 |
|
In the TIMA Stars database i found an interesting articel
about non-terminated NI ports, which results in a performance
degration of the bridge.
The solution explained in that articel is to put a loopback
on that port.
So in our case it seems to be the same problem except that we have no
open NI port but a bad ethernet line. In my opinion this results in the
same problem as a open NI port, or not??
It will be very nice if engineering would clarify this problem or give
a statement to this problem.
