Can someone please tell me what connectors are used on CDDI STP? Also, what are the specs for STP wire we recommend for CDDI. Please don't answer something like "Type 5", because I don't have access to that kind of info. We need something we can pass on to a national cable manufacturer so he can duplicate the recommended cable, or at least identify if he produces something suitable. Or, of course, point me to where I can find the requested info! Many thanks! Rolf, DEC Brazil

In the DEC FDDIcontroller 770-C Installation manual and the DECconcentrator 500 ThinWire and Shielded Twisted Part Installation manual lists the following table: Cable Types Anixter Bros # IBM Corp # --------------------------------------------------------------------- Type 1 (non-plenum) 317-036-2202-IBM 4716748 Type 1 (plenum) 325-023-2202-IBM 4716749 Type 2 (non-plenum) 318-037-2206-IBM 4716739 Type 2 (plenum) 315-014-2206-IBM 4716738 Hopefully your cable vender can cross reference these numbers. | |||||

Please bear in mind that CDDI is a trademark of Crescendo Communications Inc. It usually refers to their proprietary FDDI over UTP products. When describing the DEC product set it should be described to as being "built to the specifications of the Green Book". The Green Book is the STP FDDI spec that AMD, Chipcom, DEC, Motorola and Synoptics released in May 1991. The DEC product set can run on 100 meters of Type 1 STP. The actual channel spec is 12 dB of loss at 62 MHz, under the assumption that the cable follows a root s characteristic. Also remember that the TP-PMD spec under development by ANSI will cover STP as well as UTP. Until there is a standard, the DEC STP product set is the thing to sell. |
