| What sort of FDDI station is the CNX? If a SAS, you can hook it to another
SAS (for a two-node non-expandable network). You can in principle hook
a SAS to the A or B port of a DAS, but that's not recommended; it acts
like a wrap in the ring and you lose the single-fault recovery that you
normally get with DAS in a dual ring.
If the CNX is a DAS, you can hook it up in all the DAS ways -- in the dual
ring (reasonable for small networks) or to one or two concentrators. Umm...
if you want to use dual homing, make sure it supports that. The ability
to do dual-homing is implemented at the A/B port end of a dual-homed setup,
so that's the side where you need to verify that the ability exists, since
it's optional in the standard.

| Paul, we are talking about the DETCE-xx, see page 5-50 of the NBG.
After reading thru the description more carefully, it becomes clear that
one of the -Cx options will include the -AA option, so that part of my
question is answered.
What is not very clear is the statement on page 5-52:
"Dual attach or single attach (via DECconcentrator500)".
Can it be the "(via DECconcentrator500)" part of the statement only
applies to SINGLE ATTACH?
Thanks for the help!

| You're right, that is poorly worded. The intent is (or should be) for the
concentrator comment to apply only to SAS. If you read it that way, it
is a valid statement for the common configurations. Still, note that there
ARE legal configurations for SAS that do not have a concentrator in them.
This SAS is no different from any other SAS.
