The V2.0 software and FDDI support for DECNIS will be announced at
Interop on October 27. You find the DECNIS notes file on NOTED::DECNIS
You will be able to configure up to three FDDI cards in the DECNIS 600.
(7 option slots available and each FDDI will take up two slots)
Initial performance is rather decent:
48,000 packets/s going to the ring (e.g. multiple Ethernets feeding)
40,000 packets/s from the ring
giving average performance of 44,000 packets/s forwarding.
Filtering is ofcourse at the datalink speed.
Throughput will max out around 80Mb/s the developer thinks.

PS,
Some time later the FDDI-FDDI-FDDI-FDDI... Switch/bridge GIGAswitch
will also be available. My guess is late Q3 FY93...

| Hi,
DECnis is coming, but if you need it today, a PROTEON CNX 500 will do
FDDI to FDDI NOW. It has been working for about five weeks at my
customer site with few problems. (they have been all worked out) We are
also going to EFT DECNIS FDDI to FDDI bridging at my customer site in a
production environment. You may want to also check out Gigaswitch since
it will bridge more than two FDDI rings. Gigaswitch will not be out
until Q1 1993. Forget the Cisco AGS+ box, it showed in testing that it
was a piece of $%#^&% doing FDDI to FDDi bridging. (our DECbridge 620's
with the E-net post butt ended togther has a faster through put)
Later, Mike Beaulieu
