717.0. "DECbridge 520 & SNMP ?" by EVTAI1::GROSSETETE () Mon Sep 21 1992 04:49

    	Hi,

    	Has anybody already managed a DECbridge 520 running v.1.2.1
    of firmware using SNMP protocol ?

    	It's working fine for a DECbridge 620 but the DECbridge 520
    (7 units) never answers to SNMP command, even MIB-2 parameters are
    not returned. By the way, you can "ping" them without any problem.

    	Best regards
    	Patrick

717.1We are aware of it HOTBMW::CINNAMONMon Sep 21 1992 19:4110

	We have a serious problem reported from ORNL on 9/17 that sounds
	similar. They were running V1.2 on a 510. It looks like it's not an
	isolated incident.

	We reproduced the problem in our lab 9/18 and are feverishly working
	to fix it. However, we don't have a solution for it as yet. We will
	know more in the next couple days.

717.2We found the problem and have a fixHOTBMW::CINNAMONSun Oct 18 1992 23:0722
    We have found that all DECbridge 500 series bridges have their SNMP
    agent disabled. The box can be pinged but it won't respond to SNMP
    requests. V1.0, V1.1 and V1.2 all have this problem. We have generated
    a fix for this problem and have provided it to the support group for
    distribution. The special version of firmware to fix this problem is
    V1.2.1. Contact the CSC if you need this fix

    We are releasing a new version of DECbridge firmware to manufacturing
    and to the SSB to fix this problem. The new version is V1.2B. It fixed
    two problems:

    	1 - The NVRAM CRC would get corrupted if an IP ADDRESS was entered
            with a network management command. This would cause the
    	    power-up selftest to fail.

        2 - The SNMP agent was disabled.

    Note that both the 500 and 600 series firmware will be bumped to V1.2B
    with this fix. The 600 series code wasn't actually changed but it is
    necessary to keep the two product's firmware in sync.
