I'm trying to configure a poor man's FDDI. What I'm proposing appears
to be a legal configuration according to the NACBG. It is as follows:
|---------| ^
| VAX | |-----------| |
| 7000 w/ | | DECbridge | |
| | BNE24B-XX | | |
| DEMFA |_____________________| 520 |___|
|_________| FDDI |___________| | e-net
|
|
V
The idea is to create a high speed funnel into the VAX.
NOTE: the absence of a concentrator. I know the FDDI controller 400
is a SAS device, but we're trying to simplify our config for $ sake.
The customer is convinced that this is what he wants. Is this
a legal FDDI configuration. Should we strongly recommend against this?

Concentrators help only if you have more than 2 FDDI nodes on the ring. | |||||

The throughput of this configuration is no better than using a DEMNA.

Re: -1. I agree - but if you were to use a multiport bridge and separate
your ethernet devices over the multiple (3) segments you may begin to see
performace/throughput enhancements....

As has been said here several times before, that configuration is legal, valid, and supported. In the past there has been some confusion on this and some claims that it should be discouraged, but that is incorrect and I hope this misunderstanding is fading away. paul | |||||
