Hi,
I have some questions about Link Error Monitor (LEM) count in our
DECbridges and DECconcentrators. The default LEM count threshold is
10 to the -8th. Digital's FDDI gear will cut out when the estimated
LEM count hits this number (I think this happens this way, but I am not
sure) Now, If I change the LEM count threshold with MCC, (say to 10 to
the -10th) will the equipment take itself out of the ring when it
estimates that it hits this threshold? Or will this just set off an
alarm written for reject reason equals LEM Failure?
I don't know if I explained this properly, but what my customer would
like is a warning that his LEM count on his FDDI gear is getting worse,
before the offending gear takes itself out of the loop.(say at 10 to
the -12th)
Thanks, Mike Beaulieu

691.1 | LER Cutoff vs LER Alarm | QUIVER::PARISEAU | Luc Pariseau | Thu Sep 03 1992 13:22 | 12 |

If we reach the cutoff value, the connection will be shut down.
In the old version, LER Alarm didn't really do anything. In
fact cutoff and alarm were the same (change one and they both
change.) In the lastest version of our SMT code they are separated.
But LER Alarm only sends out an SMT SRF (Status Report Frame).
So unless your customer is watching for those they won't notice
anything.
