689.0. "Why do you get DATA OVERRUN?" by WLW::SEITZ (The system is a Network) Tue Sep 01 1992 23:20

I recieved a call from a customer this afternoon asking the meaning of
the DATA OVERRUN counter. It seems he just turned on the ELMS poller
and noticed this counter incrementing on all his concentrators port 1.

He apparently believes it easier to call me and ask rather than look
this up in the manuals and I don't have a copy of the manuals. Could
someone enter the definition for DATA OVERRUN counter incrementing.
Also, if you could also suggest reasons why this counter would be
    incrementing please comment.

    Thanks,
    Mike

There is a DECelms concentrator line counter called RECEIVE OVERRUN.

Its description: The number of times that the wiring concentrator
received a frame loss indication from the hardware on the line.

Curious... Either someone is blasting the concentrator with floods of
frames addressed TO IT (possibly broadcasts) or its hardware is broken.
