I am "picking up vibes" from customers in some quarters about potential
requirements for X-terminals directly connected to FDDI.
Do we have anything in mind in this arena in the future or is this deemed
to be a somewhat esoteric application ? Is good ol' ethernet man enough
for this job for a while yet ?
Comments/support please.

| 680.1 | FDDI for X terminals? | MUDDY::WATERS | Mon Aug 24 1992 09:23 | 10 | |
I presume these are imaging customers. For all but high-resolution
imaging, I can't imagine why Ethernet will not satisfy an X terminal.
X terminals never function as database engines, after all.
Since this sounds like a niche application, perhaps you'll solve it
sooner by selling a full-blown workstation with FDDI. You can get
very fast workstations that keep an FDDI busy, but I have not seen
an X terminal using the world's fastest CPUs.
At any rate, this question needs to be addressed to the VIPS people.
