672.0. "TOKEN RING CARD FOR THE DECBRIDGE?" by NSCRUE::AKE () Tue Aug 11 1992 13:47

Does anyone know when we are planning to introduce a token
ring card for the DECBridge 6XX?

I have a customer who has extensive SynOptics token ring and
wants DEC FDDI. They would like to install an FDDI ring about
March or April of next year.

As far as I know you will NOT see FDDI-to-Token Ring connectivity from
Digital as modified DECbridge xxx. The basic reason for that is that
a router simplifies the connection between T/R and FDDI because
	- Bridging standard not being final
	- only a few protocols like IBM NETBEUI requires bridging

Current FDDI-to-Token Ring solutions from Digital are the Proteon CNX 500
Bridge/Router. This box will be fully interoperable with routers from
Digital both on the LAN and on the WAN soon, probably within CY 1992.

Future FDDI-to-Token Ring solutions from Digital could be part of
the ONEHUB and/or DECNIS program. No firm plans exist as far as I know.

The DECNIS Bridge/router will get FDDI in october this year.
