668.0. "DECbridge 620 ERRORS" by VNABRW::PARGFRIEDER () Fri Aug 07 1992 04:47

Hi folks!

I have troubles with a DECbridge 620.
The bridge resets itself and the "unsolicited reset" counter increases.
This is a fatal problem for the customer, because the Cluster sattelites
are crashing. (selftest + preforw. state takes approx. 1.20 min)

We have changed all modules except backplane, but still the same.

My question now, which errors (bridge- or network problems) can cause
these "unsolicited resets"?

thanks in advance for any help

668.1Make sure you are running v1.2 firmwareQUIVER::CINNAMONFri Aug 14 1992 19:1033
Alf,

This sounds very serious. First check to make sure you are running V1.2
firmware. There were a number of things in prior releases that could cause the
bridge to crash which would be reflected in the 'unsolicited reset' counter.

Here is a list:

Version 1.2 Corrections
-----------------------
DECbridge 600 Series Only
-------------------------
Symptom:        Bridge crashes periodically.
Problem: Firmware executes bug check if it sees the silo overflow
                bit set in the LANCE receive ring descriptor.
Correction: Bridge does not crash but counts the error and remains
                operational.

Symptom:        Bridge crashes periodically.
Problem: Firmware executes bug check if the LANCE CSR has the
                babble bit set.
Correction: Bridge does not crash but counts the error and remains
                operational.

Symptom: Bridge crashes when accessed through the IP protocol (example
                SNMP requests and pings).
Problem: ARP messages received causes a crash if the bridge
                obtained IP address via BootP protocol.
Correction: Bug fixed. Bridge will not crash on receipt of ARP messages.

    DECbridge V1.2 microcode is available on VOID. If you do not have
    access to VOID, contact your Country-group Support Center. In the DACH
    group, Peter Hilger can help you.
