| Yes.
More in general, ONLY LLC frames are forwarded. Other frames are either
processed locally (SMT frames, for example -- exactly as an endnode would)
or ignored (for example, Implementer frames).

| Hi Paul,
Thanks for that fast response!!
A futher couple of simple questions, if I may, an SMT frame I understand
(Station Management and all that) but what is an "Implementer" frame?
By saying SMT frames are processed locally are you saying that they aren't
passed across FDDI? If so, how do you manage a remote (from your ETHERNET)
FDDI component? I think I must have missed something here
Cheers, Jim

| "Implementer frame" is a type of data frame similar to LLC, but with a different
frame control field. It has no defined meaning or purpose, and I know of
no application for it. Think of it as a "reserved for who knows what" frame.
Correct, SMT frames are not passed from the FDDI on which they started to
any other network. That's why sensible people don't claim that SMT frames
are the answer to your network management problems! Network management is
done by general purpose network management protocols that are NOT FDDI specific,
and NOT limited to a single FDDI network. SNMP is one such protocol;
DECnet network management and ELMS are others. (ELMS, though, is limited to
a single extended LAN.)
