630.0. "replace ethernet by fddi is transparent ?" by ANNECY::LEHY (Contre les virus, prenez un VAX I) Wed Jul 01 1992 13:06
Hi,
Please apologize if the question is so naive.
I have an application on a ULTRIX/RISC host that sends and receive BROADCAST
datagrams using UDP over two ethernet segments. (The application is also running
on other systems all connected to both ethernet segments, the hosts running
the application forms some kind of a "cluster" )
(eg if subnet A is a.b.c, the address a.b.c.255 is used to broadcast a message
to other nodes in/on the corresponding subnet/ethernet segment)
------------------ subnet A = a.b.c -------------------------
| |
-------- --------
| ULTRIX | | ULTRIX |
| RISC | | RISC | .....
| | | |
-------- --------
| |
------------------ subnet B = a.b.d -----------------------
Question: I want to replace one Ethernet by a FDDI. What is the impact on the
software ? I guess no impact at all. Can you confirm ?
By the way, what is the name of the ULTRIX device for the DEC FDDI
Controller 700 ?
Thanks
