594.0. ""Is this the procedure for UCODE update on a 9000?" by CSC32::COLTER () Tue Jun 02 1992 12:32

Please verify that the following are the proper commands for updating
 a DEMFA interface attached to a VAX9000.

VMSDCL>^P !Exit VMS and enter 9000 console mode
 >>>SHOW XMI_UPDATE !Display XMI_UPDATE off/on status
 >>>SET XMI_UPDATE/XMI:x ON !Set XMI_UPDATE status to the XMI number
!that contains the device that is to be updated
			     !x could equal [0,1,2,3]
 >>>SHOW XMI_UPDATE !Display XMI_UPDATE off/on status
 >>>CONT !Exit 9000 console mode and enter VDS
VMSDCL> !Now back to VMS awaiting a command

From the DECndu screen type the following command:

 DOWNLOAD LOAD/CONFIRM FXA0 (or FXB) MOM$SYSTEM:DEMFA013.SYS

When the update is complete, turn off the update switch by executing the
following commands:

VMSDCL>^P !Exit VMS and enter 9000 console mode
 >>>SHOW XMI_UPDATE !Display XMI_UPDATE off/on status
 >>>SET XMI_UPDATE/XMI:x OFF !Set XMI_UPDATE status to the XMI number
!that contains the device that is to be updated
			     !x could equal [0,1,2,3]
 >>>SHOW XMI_UPDATE !Display XMI_UPDATE off/on status
 >>>CONT !Exit 9000 console mode and enter VDS
VMSDCL> !Now back to VMS awaiting a command

This should update your DEMFA and cause the VMS system to reload the DEMFA
with the latest version of microcode when it is reinitialized.

If you want the update to take effect immediately, use the /reset qualifier.
Otherwise, the update will not take happen until the adapter is re-inited.
