My customer has FDDI concentrators and needs to manage them with SUNnet manager using SNMP. They have updated the concentrators and have OBM capability, I'm assuming they have a minimum of Ver 3.0 loaded in the concentrator (I'm waiting for an answer). The configuration FDDI Con--->Cisco FDDI--->Ethernet--->SUNnet Manager. According to the customer the Cisco box translates TCP/IP and thus "SHOULD" translate SNMP which would allow them to use SUNnet manager to manage our concentrators via SNMP, right? According to note 502 setting the IP address via OBM would then allow access to the concentrators via SNMP if Cisco really translates, right? Can someone clarify? Tony

If they have IP routing turned on in the Cisco, this should work fine. Cisco uses SNAP encoding to route IP onto FDDI, which is the format that the DC500 expects. (the term translation is typically used only in the context of bridging) Anil |
