| And VMS uses that feature.
If ULTRIX supports the DEMFA, I don't believe that they use the
protocol filtering feature; they only use the address filtering
feature (it's a matter of driver design within the O/S).

It sounds like this feature can come in handy, if a person can control
what is being filtered. How would I (as a human) configure the DEMFA:
NCP, NCL, SYSGEN,?

or better yet, where is the documentation located?? VTX SPD tells me
very little.

| Filtering is handling by the driver depending on what datalink users exist.
If you start an applicatino which uses SAP 7E for example, the DEMFA driver
will add that user to the DEMFA automaticly. There is no need for an
application or network manager to know what the internal interface between
the driver and a adapter is as long as the driver performs correctly.

The point others are trying to make in response to your question is
this: Can you propose an application that requires extra (manual)
control over DEMFA's filtering? Why not just control what applications
are installed on the system, if you want to control what goes over its
adapter? This is why operating systems don't have switches to fiddle
with the automatic filters in the network adapters.

Documentation (internal use only) for virtually all DEC-serviced hardware
products can be ordered from Literature Order Service. $ VTX LOS
will get you to their extensive catalog.
DEMFA Technical Description can be ordered as EK-DEMFA-TD by sending
mail to NEST::ORDER with your mail stop, name and cost center.
