Yes, I could update firmware in update position of VAX6000 console. I had a
no idea about console switch. Thank you for that info, Maureen.
The following is command and meessage from VAX when I did update DEMFA.
I expected inteructive manner because I sead /conf, but NDU seemed to terminate
after just typed out the current version. (New vaersion was not typed out
then.)
After just I rebooted the sysyetm NDU showed me the new version. It was very
confused to me. (especially for parson who knows NDU/ULTRIX and DEFZA upgrade
should be confused).

508.3 | A littl explanation | STAR::SALKEWICZ | It missed... therefore, I am | Mon Mar 23 1992 15:53 | 13 |

At the very end of a firmware update,... NDU issues a special $QIO
to FXDRIVER which makes it declare a fatal error, and isseu a reset
to the device. This is a "phony" error whose purpose is only to force
the devicde through its initialization and cause it to start executing
the newly loaded firmware image. This method is not completely clean
and results in some weird behavior sometimes, likethat described in
.-1.
Ugly yes,.. but it works.

508.4 | /reset switch | PROXY::JEAN | MAUREEN JEAN | Mon Mar 23 1992 16:16 | 8 |

With the command line that you were using, the code update will not
occur until the adapter is reset for some reason. To get the update
to happen right away, the /reset switch would have to be added to your
command line.
