Can somebody confirm/clarify what should be a simple question? The FDDI standard requires multi-mode fiber which supports a maximum inter-station distance of 2km. Does this mean I need a DECconcentrator 500 every 2kms? Let's say I want to implement a multi-facility vaxcluster with two facilities 40 kms apart (as advertised!). That's all I'm using the FDDI ring for. Do I have to have 20 concentrators along the way too, or is there some kind of repeater which just regenerates the FDDI protocol along the way without the funcitonality and expense of the concentrator? Sid

Use single mode fiber and you can go 40km between concentrators. |
