346.0. "parallel ethernet and FDDI bridges" by HGOVC::LILLIANTANG () Wed Sep 18 1991 06:16

Please verify if the following config is ok:

          -----                 |

                  ethernet

RB stands for ethernet remote bridge, and DB stands for a Bridge/concentrator
pair (or a DAS DECbridge), assuming all bridges are running spanning tree
algorithm. Types of traffic include DECnet IV, TCPIP, XNS, LAT and IPX.

The ethernets and E1 link are existing equipment, and the customer
wants to migrate to FDDI as more traffic is anticipated with imaging
applications. There will be four ethernet sites using the FDDI as backbone.
(The customer is looking for ways to use the existing remote bridges.)

Are there anything else I should be aware of? any comments are appreciated.

Yes, of course, for the same reason that it would have been ok with
traditional ethernet-only bridges.

You may want to verify with network management that the link on the
left is indeed standby, and the one on the right active by default.
If not, manipulation of the line costs would correct that.
