I am looking for feedback on the following: 8 floor 2121 --+-- DEFEB-?? | DECbridge 500 | | <-- STP ??? | | (riser) 40M | | 500m | -+---------------------------+- basement 2121 DECconcentrator 500 | 1825 Lorne DEFCN-AA DECbridge 628 DEFCN-E* DEFEB-DS DEFCN-S* The first riser is in one office building. The 628 would be about 500m away in the telephone equipment building. The 500m ring stretch will expand to 15km when the rest of the city is added to the ring. Customer was hoping to play with all 3 of our offerings. Adding STP would be a bonus. Telco's love anything that is Fiber or STP related!!!! The fallback is to do low power or multimode betwwen the concentrator 500 and the DECbridge 500. The 500m stretch will be single mode. -- thanx for your comments, Guy

Guy, A few small nits.... the DECbridge would be a DECbridge 510 as the 500 is being retired with the 510 replacing it (unless they already hve the 500). As we mentioned in the previous note, there is no STP connector for the bridge, so you could use the low-power optics on the CON (DEFCN-L*) to save cost per port. Are you saying that the link to the 628 will expand to 15Km or that the link from the 628 to the rest of the city will be 15Km? You can mix multimode and SMF in on backbone, so if the 500m link that you show will remain at 500m and the next link out of the bridge will be 15Km, then I'd suggest you use a DECbridge 626 to give the mixed backbone and minimal cost.
