312.0. "NTP lost on initialize" by COMICS::REYNOLDSJ (Mad Dogs and Englishmen) Fri Jul 26 1991 11:46

                DecBridge 500 NVRAM problem
                ---------------------------

    Hello,

can anyone shed light on a problem with NTP entries:

If you add an NTP entry : ELMS> ADD NTP xx-xx this entry
is lost if you re-initialize the bridge (DIP switch 2 is off (up)

If you then initialize with S/W 2 ON, all entries are scrubbed
but then when you add one, TWO are added (the other is 80-FC for
Appletalk). I didnt get this until I did this 'hard' reset
so I assume this was the first time this was done since the
    kit was installed/downloaded.

It looks like you cant save NTP entries. On the other hand,
APPLETALK is currently the only 'problem' protocol so I
guess this isnt too much of an issue as long as a 'hard'
reset has been done at some stage.

                              John Reynolds.

312.1More info and solution to the problemLEVERS::KRISHNAFri Jul 26 1991 17:2219
    Hi,
We have seen this problem in a bridge last week. The problem is that
the nvram is not modified when entries are added or deleted. The
problem has been fixed and will be available in the next firmware
    release V3.1.

In the meantime you can do the following to have the Apple ARP protocol
in the NTP table. Use Elms to ELMS> init bridge with defaults This
will cause the Apple ARP protocol to be added to the NTP table in the
nvram as Apple ARP (80-F3) is a factory set default.

If you add or delete entries in the NTP table the ram copy of the table
is updated correctly and hence will take effect on the operation of the
bridge. It is only when you reset or power up that these entries are
lost. But the Apple ARP entry will be in the nvram if you have
    initialized the bridge with defaults.

    Hope this helps
    Krishna

Thanks, thats good. At least the APPLETALK protocol is configured,
so hopefully nothing else is going to crop up before 3.1 is released!

                           regards,
                                           John.
