301.0. "FDDI 'MOP' ?" by TDCIS3::KOUZNETZOFF (Nicolas Kouznetzoff ADC Evry France) Thu Jul 18 1991 04:32

Because our group has to develop a FDDI devices testing tool , I would
like to know if a layer such MOP is existing for FDDI. If yes , where
on line could I get the specs and functional description ?

MOP exists over FDDI just like it does over Ethernet. The specs are the
same as MOP is independent of either FDDI or Ethernet.

Sorry, I don't have a pointer to the specs, but if you have one
already for Ethernet,.. its the same.

I'd be interested in hearing more (offline) about what you're looking for.
Incidentally, I'm MOP architect...

If the specs are the same, why does the MOP COUNTERS packet come back
larger from the fddi side of a defeb than from its ethernet side?
(my guess would be that the counters are fddi (as opposed to csma/cd)
specific...)

BTW, could someone point me at the format for fddi mop counters?

P.S. We've had to patch the DECmcc
Ethernet AM to reject this larger
     packet...

You should have patched the AM to accept and understand the larger packet!

The description is in a draft MOP spec update, as well as in the MOP notesfile.
You should have access to both if you're involved with MOP; if not let me know.
