    I read this in Lightwave magazine today - maybe this is a clue as to
    why FDDI isn't selling as well as we expected it to.

    "An Infonetics Research Institute study of fiber distributed data
    interface users indicates that many potential FDDI customers have
    become gun shy toward the technology. One major reason is the long
    process of standardizing specifications for the FDDI station management
    set of protocols, which handles most of the important network
    management functions. Infonetics said that study respondents also
    listed the lack of standard interoperability tests as a concern. The
    majority of those interviewed for the study, especially those working
    in heterogeneous network environments, are wary of compatability
    problems."
    
    Looks like marketing has their job cut out for them....
