I am participate in a FDDI-project on a campus. They will a single ring for FDDI with several DAC. I can't find in the documentation that this is a valid configuration or if it is possible. They wil have only the primary ring of FDDI. What wil happen when the fiber brokes. Will the closest DAC than wrap the fiber or stays it open ??????. What are the consequeces about this configuration and will it work oke. I hope there is someone who can help me Arie de Jong

It is IMPOSSIBLE to have only a primary ring. When you wire up an FDDI network, you automatically get a dual ring. (One exception: when you build just a tree.) In other words, as soon as you make any A-B connections you will have a dual ring. Could you describe a bit more what's being proposed? Perhaps it's some simple misunderstanding. You might also get a copy of the FDDI Primer; it sounds like it would straighten out some confusion here. paul |
