266.0. "DECnet support FDDIcontroller 400" by BERN01::DEY (Walter Dey, EIS, Berne Switzerland) Wed May 29 1991 09:09

In the announcement text of the DEC FDDIcontroller 400 (XMI) it say's

"Support for DECnet Phase IV and LAT"

However in the SPD for DECnet-VAX V5.4, DECnet-VAX 5.4 Extensions I see
no word about FDDI support.

Does that imply : FDDI support in Wave 2 ????

The DEC FDDIcontroller 400 is not supported on VMS V5.4, VMS V5.4-1, or
VMS V5.4-2. It will be supported in a release after V5.4-2. Since the
support for a given piece of hardware is not guaranteed until a release
ships, it would be silly to say that the DEC FDDIcontroller 400 WILL BE
SUPPORTED in VMS V5.4-3. Instead, we will say that it's planned to be
supported in VMS V5.4-3. We will only know for sure when VMS V5.4-3
ships. Of course, you cannot mention any of this to customers. This
    is internal-only information.

Is it to early to say, wether this is called Wave1 or Wave2 ? DECnet-VAX
Extensions is a kind of a layered product on VMS, therefore I am mainly
interested in which DECnet-VAX Extension (wave1) or DECnet/OSI for VMS (Wave2)
FDDI Controller 400 is supported.

Or do you mean that the relevant driver ... are shipped with the VMS kit
and not DECnet-VAX Extension ?

Any clarification is helpful, because the announcement is very unclear about
it.

266.3Wave 1 specific informationSTAR::GAGNEDavid Gagne - VMS/LAN DevelopmentThu May 30 1991 09:0810
The Wave 1 kit ships Ethernet drivers (and no FDDI drivers). The only
reason the Wave 1 kit is shipping these drivers is because the Wave 1
kit requires some of the changes that are in the VMS drivers (after
V5.4-2). Once these new drivers are available from a VMS kit, the
drivers on the Wave 1 kit are not supported. When the Wave 1 kit
is installed on a VMS system that already has the new drivers, it will
not install the Ethernet drivers it has on its kit. This implies that
the Wave 1 kit can be installed on a VMS system that has Ethernet and
FDDI drivers. You will however have to ask the Wave 1 people if their
product will use the FDDI driver (and if they've tested it).
