256.0. "FDDI OVER 10 Km ??" by LISVAX::LOPES_P () Fri May 10 1991 13:19

    Hello,

    We are involved in a bid for an university with following requirements:

    Connect two buildings apart 10 Km using FDDI tecnology
    In each building they have standard ethernet LAN's

    Is this possible ?
    What kind of fiber?
    What kind of bridges/adaptors?

    All answers or hints are welcome

    Regards,

    Yes, with the new single-mode fiber adapters you can go up to 40 Km
    between stations, if I am not mistaken.

    Today's singlemode fiber support is for concentrator to concentrator
    links only. We do not support singlemode connections for the DEC
    FDDIcontroller 700. Likewise, the current bridge does not support
    singlemode fiber, but the new bridge family will. And 40 km is the
    supported distance.
