237.0. "VAX 9000's - Ultrix - FDDI" by LIKWOW::PACE () Mon Apr 15 1991 19:46

I support the Los Angeles Government District. Part of my work
is with the Aerospace primes and their involvement in large
projects they bid to the government.

It is my understanding that we currently do not support the XMI
FDDI adaptor under ULTRIX for the 9000. I also understand that we
do not intend to provide this support ?!?@?##$?!!

This is seriously impacting our attempts to get 9000's spec'd
into several large program bids.

Anybody out there have a better story or any input ?

    I'd suggest you take this up directly with product management.

237.2Try NSC (Hyperchannel)CUJO::CASELet Your Keyboard do the walking...Wed Apr 17 1991 20:2311
I hate to resort to third party suppliers, but I followed this up recently and
got the "No plans to support" message. It just reinforces to me that Ultrix
on VAX is not a "strategic" offering - very limited investment in enhancements.

We've been configuring a VAX 6000/Ultrix based solution here for a customer
using NSC. They previously marketed the proprietary Hyperchannel interfaces
and software; now they provide FDDI connections for the interfaces, and
support of their own NETEX protocols, as well as TCP/IP. The connection is
a BI card, but I've been told it can run at up to 64 Mb/s. Don't yet have
any real-life thruput info. Give your local NSC rep a call, or send me
mail and I can fax you what I've received from them.

    No... please... talk to product management. Just because a position of
    "no support planned" was taken some time ago doesn't mean that product
    management won't listen to the voice of reason (a.k.a., the voice of
    customer orders).
